Kirsten Van De Belt – ArtEZ Bachelor 2022
HAVESZATE S
What was the source of inspiration for your graduation collection?
Haveszate S is inspired by the emotional impact of the interaction between the human body and the weather. In addition to this personal inspiration, I was influenced by the indigenous architecture and self-sufficient cultures displayed in the counterculture book “Shelters” by Lloyd Kahn, (1973).
Does your collection carry a specific message?
Developing a universal vocabulary by simplifying archetypes into its most abstract form. In this way we can disconnect clothing and the way we dress from trends and seasons. Reusing old materials to create a new past.
What specific techniques or materials did you use in your collection?
Reusing garments and transforming the pattern into a new shape without wasting any fabric. By capturing physical interactions of myself in nature reserve Haveszate S, I created a series of experimental movements. I translated these movements into flat geometrical patterns that turned into sustainable garments.
