Museum Kranenburgh: LISA KONNO PAUL KOOIKER

“The exhibition Lisa Konno Paul Kooiker brings together the work of visual artists Lisa Konno (1992) and Paul Kooiker (1964). Each has their own independent practice, though both work in an interdisciplinary way, moving freely between fine art, fashion, photography and performance. This exhibition presents two separate works that each artist made for performative contexts. Neither project has previously been shown in a museum. Together, their objects and images open a dialogue with each another and the viewer about the power of fashion and its influence on the formation of identity.

Konno presents costumes and accessories in textile and ceramic from Figure (2025–2026), a performance she recently made in collaboration with De Nationale Opera en Ballet. Alongside these, Kooiker presents his photographic series Business of Fashion (2018). The installation brings two different approaches into dialogue. Konno explores the relationship between fashion, power and identity from the perspective of the body and its relationship to clothing. Her designs reflect the influence of fashion and ideals of beauty at different stages of life. Kooiker, by contrast, plays with the body as an exaggerated sculptural form, using light, shadow and abstraction to create images with a surrealist undertone.

Lisa Konno Paul Kooiker engages with current debates about the influence of image culture and beauty standards on notions of identity. At a time when the way we present ourselves is increasingly shaped by stylized images and the gaze of others, Konno and Kooiker offer two distinct critical perspectives on the relationship between fashion and the human body.”
