VLADIMIR KARALEEV’s pieces of growing value

Dis/Play

“With Dis/Play, Vladimir Karaleev presents an experimental project that is both a sketchbook and material research. The Capsule Collection is created from offcuts, dead-stock and found materials – textures and techniques are examined, deconstructed and reassembled.

The central theme is the creative working process itself, which plays a key role in Karaleev’s work. Visitors have been invited to immerse themselves in this process, the inner process is made public. The collection focuses on simple constructions that are further developed through manual manipulation. The principle of chance gives rise to new surface compositions – textile collages that are composed of leftover fabric elements and find new meaning through draping.

Contrasts are played with again and again: inner and outer surfaces, visible workmanship, lining fabrics that are turned inside out. Functional elements lose their original purpose and now appear as ornamental details – a conscious examination of the loss of identity in mass production.

The collection is shown as part of a sculptural installation. The starting point is the “display” element – the bust as a form of presentation reconstructed from found objects. This “display installation” creates a space between object, function and imagination.

As a playful addition to the functional and dysfunctional aesthetics, visitors encountered everyday objects such as a foldable camping stool, which becomes a design object as part of the capsule collection. Its function is retained, but a new surface turns it into a decorative element – an object in the space between everyday life and art.”
