Conny Groenewegen receives The Mercedes-Benz DUTCH FASHION AWARD 2011
On a mild Friday evening under the fine vaulted interior of the St. James Church in The Hague (NL), Conny Groenewegen (1973) won a 25.000euro check with her FW2012 pre-collection “Alchemy”. Groenewegen sent fifteen looks down the runway in a private show for an international jury in the late afternoon; already convincing them her vision fits the necessities of the struggling markets.
Her work was interpreted as a raw-creative message by most guests during the official ceremony held later on. Focusing on a single knitted technique where a graphic jacquard combined with Lurex transforms into hanging meshes, all looks have applied to the same languid idea, which although lacking diversity on constructions, still showed her intentions are to innovate alla “soft-tech”. It is hard to visualize the reality of receiving this economic injection for a young designer, but Groenewegen has gratefully accepted the compromises that this entails, including two season showroom sales in Milan (IT). Congratulations!
