Summer in Europe remains unclear when predicting its climate. Therefore, best destinations are those combining culture and sun in order to avoid holiday disasters.

Balenciaga’s hometown Getaria (SP) offers a spectacular view of the sea, Basque cuisine and the chance to inquire into its origins. Since 1209 recognized as village by King Alfonso VIII, Getaria’s narrow streets show ancient architecture based on its local industrial activities. Its harbor has traded fish since de Middle Ages; it represents until today the strongest relationship between its habitants (2.628) and the sea. Historically and for centuries, seamen were dedicated to whaling. Today their fishing includes best qualities of anchovies, bonito and mackerel. Imagine lunchtimes sitting facing the sea, grilled fish, and vineyards providing the best grapes transformed into Txakoli (Basque wine).

The clash between blue water and green flora from the eroded hillsides, that’s what Getaria is all about, paradisiacal. Its panorama involves a spectacular view into the Cantabric Sea; weather you are facing the peaceful beach (Malkorbe) or the brave one (Gaztetape) under the surfer’s domain. The Parish Church of San Salvador is kept as a national gothic jewel, where Cristóbal Balenciaga once served as an altar boy.
