Seoul Fashion Week SS2012: ALANI
After landing back home two years ago, Seoul based designer Jaehwan Kim (Central Saint Martins Graduate) aka ALANI knew his way forward, defining his handwriting. For the next spring-summer 2012 his intentions go in the direction of developing under limited materials: noble denim as mono fabric. Letting the fabric behave according to different treatments, stonewashed or enzymatic, he is always searching for refinement.
Last week on Sunday while having a short chat in his Seoul studio, he mentioned his latest influential masters: Gerrit Rietveld and Richard Avedon. They first invited him to discover the best pirouettes when cutting materials, combining the soft and hard side at once. Avedon’s iconic hyperrealism and capture of denim gave ALANI the necessary depth to concentrate when designing in blue. However, ALANI is not alone in defining one of the most contemporary Korean labels; local retailers as Flow, Man on the Boom and Product are distributing his raw concept.
Above all, he delivers men’s primary condition when biting fashion – comfort.
