The Scent Of Your New Lover: ALAÏA Paris – Text by OG
A silent hot dry summer night keeps you harmonious and quiet, almost motionless in the dark as midnight passes by. Hidden behind the reed persienne that protected you during the day’s suffocating light you await your lover’s arrival. Vaporized sensuality and suspense, overdosing on those semiarid hours of the day when only a new breeze from an invisible billowing storm nearby – would bring it close to your heart. Your eternal and faithful new lover has arrived, bottled and distilled by Azzedine Alaïa.
When Mr Alaïa started his olfactory trip to reach this timeless product – his first fragrance – he brought up one line: “cool water falling into hot chalk”. This was the vision outlined to Firmenich’s perfumer – Mrs Marie Salamagne – and thus began a deep coalition that strives to awaken women’s temperaments. It is a pentagram of sensations that beg to be embraced: airy notes and pink pepper (fresh), freesia and peony (floral), animal notes and musk (bare-skin).
The mystery behind the erected black bottle is one that guides you into an aromatic darkness. It is topped with a spool of golden thread, reverentially evoking the knitwear we all recognize. It endlessly flirts and curves around your nose and body, matching the balance and harmony we know from his prêt-à-porter garments. Once again Alaïa has empowered women’s beauty, but this time from within their gorgeous handbags.
