DURAN LANTINK: awarded 50K for cracking the fashion system – Text by OG
There was a fresh head breeze as we walked to the Roman Catholic church enclaved at Ruigoord, Amsterdam’s harbor village. It was there that Duran Lantink was awarded the renowned Mode Stipendium (€50,000) by Cultuurfonds for his revolutionary role and (re)collection of global credentials in the field of fashion.
The origin of this free artists’ village goes back to its ancient, fertile grounds which hosted various talents and their creativity for more than five decades. A cosmic parcel of land squatted by artists in 1973, this is a space that knows what it means to be resilient within those inflexible systems that are so allergic to change. It took many moons for it to be recognized as a safe, cultural altar, but in the end it succeeded. Does that sound like a resemblance to Lantink’s mission for change?
Initially an island of swampy soil, Ruigoord today is within its own evolution where it is only natural to compare it to Lantink’s brand path. Whether looking at Lantink existing as an island during school, or the legalization of the studio’s multiple skills like reclaimed land in a polder, the similarities are unanimously felt by professionals and consumer’s eyes worldwide. From the moment that his fall-winter 2025 collection, “Duranimal,” was presented at the Paris show last March, our hearts were stolen by Duran Lantink’s entire oeuvre straight away.
The constant battle that Lantink has with freeing space was an ideal first fight to pick. Though initially it was hard to have constant breakthroughs, it continuously gifted him and his team a tenacity that would only make their holy grails larger and brighter. Lantink moved from inner space to external space, from introvert to extrovert, from within the concave cutting garments to hunched back over the convex pushing past every you’re doing wonderfully! All of this shows how Lantink has now entered full, national recognition, opening for new audiences.
Announced as the winner of the Mode Stipendium 2025 by the confident voice of Angélique Westerhof (DFF), Duran Lantink received a trophy designed by Atelier Ted Noten (and thus the most sensational babysitting job of the coming year!). Here’s to hoping for another full year of companionship and authority.
