REBECCA WARD SS2014: parasomnia, blurring the boundaries of the real and the imagined
It seems that Ward’s native latitude and longitude (Ashburton, New Zealand), brings a relaxing natural value to open backs and strapless wearable dresses, uncovering without losing decency. Her show exhibited lissome young bodies, shaped and transformed by contact with leather and transparent fabrics; blackish roses (three-dimensional prints) rejecting the light. Romance intensifies while aging obscurely through perfect ruffles, sharing the struggles between sleep and the waking hour – a kind of handcrafted madness.
The right to swim “between dreams and reality” comes from the fashion autonomy someone gains after living/studying in London (Central St Martins) and graduating in The Netherlands (ArtEZ Masters). Rebecca Ward, often bikes through Amsterdam dressed in black, sometimes disappearing into a fog of creativity, from this emerges her local recognition as a foreign talent; a non-commercial operator in Amsterdam. Please, also take a look into her art.
